Did it pay off?

Kahlonetrics uses sound statistics to measure what business decisions actually achieved: price changes, campaigns, new locations, company acquisitions, etc.

An example with simulated data: in March, a company introduces a new pricing model. According to the forecast, revenue will grow over the following months.

Three months later, revenue collapses.

Comparing forecast and actual shows −7% against the forecast.

Comparing before and after shows −6% against the nine months before.

So did the new pricing model cost revenue?

Or was it a macroeconomic shock, such as soaring energy costs?

Planning creates clarity: if the pricing model starts in the regions at different times, the regions still waiting form a synthetic control group. They experience the same shock, just without the new pricing model.

The relative comparison shows: the pricing model increased revenue by +8%.

+8%more revenue than the control group

Chart with simulated data: weekly revenue over 21 months. A new pricing model starts in the regions at different times; shown are the regions that switch first. Afterward, revenue drops because of a macroeconomic shock. Forecast versus actual −7%, before versus after −6%. Compared with a synthetic control group of the regions still waiting, which experience the same shock, revenue is +8% higher.

Services

We measure the impact of your company’s decisions using mature statistical methods from academic research, so that you can direct budgets to where they demonstrably work.

Causal Business Analytics

Measures what a decision actually achieved, far more reliably than simple before-and-after comparisons, forecast-versus-actual checks or mere correlations.

Applications

  • Pricing

Did the price increase cost us customers?

  • Marketing

    What did the campaign add?

  • Locations

How much revenue does the new store take from existing ones?

  • Software rollouts

Did the new software shorten lead times?

  • Processes

Did the new shift planning reduce overtime?

  • Customer retention

Do customers stay longer since the loyalty program?

  • Company acquisitions

Did the acquisition deliver the value in the business case?

  • And much more

There is a suitable statistical method for almost every decision. Tell us your question.

How we work

  • Methods

    • Synthetic control
    • Difference-in-differences, including staggered designs
    • Randomized experiments (RCTs)
    • Instrumental variables
    • Hazard models (e.g. Cox)
    • etc.
  • Designing for measurement

We advise on planning and rollout so that interventions can be measured reliably, for example through a staggered launch or deliberately chosen pilot regions. Decisions that have already been made we evaluate just as well, retrospectively with the data you have.

  • Transparency

Effect with a range of uncertainty, disclosed assumptions and a replication package that lets you recompute every result.

  • Final report

A presentation of the results and/or a digital report to read and share.

Data infrastructure

Every analysis is only as good as its data. We advise on building centralized databases and set up established tools.

  • Advice

Which data exists, which questions should it answer, which architecture fits your IT?

  • Data model

Consistent models in a central database, with automated quality checks, e.g. with dbt.

  • Integration

Setting up established ELT tools with ready-made connectors for online stores, CRM, ERP and spreadsheets, e.g. Airbyte or dlt.

  • Handover

Documented and set up so that your team can take over operation. Hosting in the EU is possible.

Apps and software

Analyses that last: we turn results into apps and dashboards for everyday use and deliver custom software.

  • Analytics apps

Ongoing impact measurement and scenarios as an app for your team.

  • Dashboards

Metrics from the data model, presented clearly.

  • Custom software

    From business applications to interfaces.
